Day

01

Family Arrival

The family adventure begins in Negombo, a short transfer from the airport and a wonderful first taste of Sri Lanka. Settle in to your eco-beach resort with beach time, a lagoon walk, and an optional short boat ride through the mangroves, spotting kingfishers and monkeys. A relaxed seafood dinner brings the family together for the exciting journey ahead.

Day

02

Into the Wild

Drive to Wilpattu National Park, Sri Lanka’s largest national park and home to leopards, elephants, and sloth bears in a wilderness of ancient jungle and natural lakes. Your afternoon jeep safari includes a fun wildlife bingo and animal-tracking activity specially designed for children, followed by evening storytelling about conservation around the safari lodge.

Day

03

Ancient Kingdom

Travel to Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s 2,500-year-old sacred capital, for a story-based guided tour that brings ancient history to vivid life for children and adults alike. Explore the sacred Bodhi tree, visit giant dagobas, and discover ancient ponds. As the sun softens, cycle together around the ancient tank in one of Sri Lanka’s most atmospheric settings.

Day

04

Medieval Ruins

A bicycle ride through Polonnaruwa’s medieval ruins – weaving past royal palaces, colossal Buddha statues, and ancient bathing pools while keeping an eye out for resident monkeys. A traditional village-style dinner completes this richly educational and genuinely enjoyable day, before a comfortable night at your Polonnaruwa eco-lodge.

Day

05

Village Life & Dambulla

Drive to Sigiriya for a wonderful afternoon village experience – bullock cart rides, a simple cooking demonstration, and natural canoe paddling on the village tank. Visit the beautiful Dambulla Cave Temple complex with its painted interiors. An evening nature walk or outdoor family games at your Sigiriya eco-lodge rounds out the day.

Day

06

The Big Climb

The most anticipated morning: climbing Sigiriya Rock Fortress (recommended for ages 8+ due to steep exposed sections). Families with younger children can explore the beautiful water gardens or opt for Pidurangala Rock, a shorter, more accessible climb with equally magnificent views. Drive to Kandy for an evening lakeside walk or colourful cultural show.

Day

07

Highland Rails

Begin with a visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic before boarding the famous hill country scenic train – one of the world’s most beautiful railway journeys. Share snacks and tea onboard as the landscape of tea estates, waterfalls, and jungle gorges unfolds through the open carriage windows. Arrive in Ella to a cool highland evening.

Day

08

Ella Adventure Day

An action-packed adventure day in Ella for the whole family – visit the iconic Nine Arches Bridge, hike the accessible Little Adam’s Peak trail for spectacular views, and take on the ziplining and giant swing for genuine highland thrills. Finish with cafe hopping through Ella’s charming village, discovering the best hot chocolates and local treats together.

Day

09

Fort & Reef

Drive south to the coast, stopping in Galle Fort for cycling along cobblestone streets, ice cream, and a fun rampart walk with ocean views on both sides. Continue to Hikkaduwa for afternoon beach playtime in the warm, shallow waters. Check in to your beachfront hotel as the south coast welcomes the family with warm waves and golden light.

Day

10

Ocean Adventures

A gloriously full beach day in Hikkaduwa – visit a sea turtle conservation project for an educational and moving encounter, try snorkelling or a glass-bottom boat ride over the coral reef, and for older kids and teens, begin beginner surf lessons in the warm Indian Ocean. Optional whale watching excursions are available seasonally. A beach day the family will never forget.

Day

11

City Finale

Drive to Colombo for a final family city day – enjoy the open green spaces of Viharamahadevi Park, explore the Colombo National Museum for interactive cultural learning, or head straight to One Galle Face Mall with its excellent children’s play zones and family-friendly restaurants. A special final evening family dinner celebrates twelve days together in Sri Lanka.

Day

12

Farewell Journey

After a relaxed hotel breakfast, the family gathers for the airport transfer with hearts full of incredible memories – elephants, ancient ruins, mountain trains, coral reefs, and the warmth of Sri Lanka’s people woven into every one of them. Departure. Until Sri Lanka calls you back.
